Branelle + Jordan – Melfort SK Winter Wedding

I traveled to Melfort, SK at the end of 2013 to photograph Branelle and Jordan’s wedding. There’s cold, and then there’s Saskatchewan! When we were outside for portraits, it was -42 with the windchill, so I can honestly say that Branelle is hands down, my toughest bride yet! Jordan said he actually enjoyed the cold, but to Branelle and myself (and trust me, I was bundled up), it still felt like thousands of knives on our skin. They had a big wedding, with over 400 people in attendance…and like any good party in Saskatchewan, there were perogies and polkas (my favourites), and a room full of good people! I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Melfort and look forward to seeing a bunch of these folks in Regina this July for another wedding.

Branelle + Jordan – Sneak Peek

I’ve finally thawed out from Branelle and Jordan’s wedding in Saskatchewan at the end of the year. I brushed up on my winter driving skills after 13 years living here in snowless Victoria and headed toward Melfort. I stayed with the Zwingli family at their B&B, and their hospitality was enough to make this Maritimer homesick around the holidays. Such wonderful and warm people…which certainly helped when it was -37 outside. Just a few images of Branelle and Jordan during our portrait portion of the day, which consisted of us keeping the car running with the heat blasted, jumping outside for two seconds until we couldn’t feel our hands, then hopping back in the car to warm up. I will say without a doubt, Branelle is the toughest bride I’ve photographed as far as enduring the elements, and as for Jordan, he had no complaints and said this was ‘his kind of weather’.  Myself, I vow to never complain about a rainy June wedding after photographing a December 28th wedding in the middle of Saskatchewan. I almost dropped to my knees and kissed the grass when I landed in Victoria the day after the wedding! This West Coast has made me a winter wimp!

Lowden House Farm Wedding – Anna + Andrew

Anna and Andrew were married at Lowden House Farm in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. They laughed the entire day which certainly made my job easy! Anna told me that they laughed throughout their entire first date, and they haven’t really stopped since! This was the second wedding I’ve photographed at Lowden House Farm, and it’s a great all-in-one venue!

We had some extra time on one of the evenings together in Edinburgh, so we headed toward Arthur’s Seat for some portraits. Who could turn down a hike in your wedding outfits?!

Edinburgh Scotland Wedding – Sarah + Fin

When one of your oldest friends asks you to capture their wedding day, it’s pretty much a no-brainer. Fin and Sarah phoned me after they got engaged and I could hear them working their way up to telling me the news…’You tell her’ (laughter), ‘No, you tell her’ (elbow nudge). I had a pretty good idea what was coming, but I let them break the exciting news on their own time. I spent a week over at their home in Edinburgh, along with the Cutcliffes, and a few surprise guest Cape Breton MacDonalds thrown in for good measure. Every night was a late night, up laughing/singing/dancing/etc. I honestly don’t know of an evening I’ve spent with Fin/Sarah/BJ/Mike over the past 20+ years that’s ended early (in the words of Fin’s mother Maggie on his wedding day (to me), ‘You guys never change when you’re together…you’re just as foolish as you were when you were kids’). I’m so glad that Fin has found and married Sarah…she’s a talented musician, and a wonderful person who’s also hilarious and foolish. I couldn’t be happier for them and look forward to many more future shenanigans!
