Anne Schaefer contacted me needing some photographs taken for her upcoming album, ‘The Waiting Room’ (set to release shortly). We met at her beautiful loft and took some photos there before heading outside. Since her son Zack was on his way over to her place, and because they don’t have any photos of them together, we decided to take some. Anne is a lovely musician (and person) and it was a treat to work with her.

I had a session with Vancouver-based band, The Paperboys while they were in Victoria playing at Butchart Gardens. Within the 8 piece band, is also a 5 piece band, three 3 piece bands, a duo, and a 5 piece Latin band….talk about versatile! Keep your eyes peeled for The Paperboys playing in your area!

I had a quick session last night with the Boston-based Folk Arts Quartet (Ivonne Hernandez, Liz Davis Maxfield, Jenna Moynihan, and Lea Kirstein). They arrived in Victoria from a tour in Saskatchewan, where Ivonne (in the purple tights) broke her foot dancing (we like to joke that it was in the mosh pit at the folk festival). Yesterday was her first day with a removable cast, so hiking around taking promo photos with crutches and a fiddle was a bit of an ordeal. Luckily we were speedy enough to catch some of the beautiful golden evening light and hit up one more location before the sun went down. My fiddler friend Ivonne is home for a few weeks visiting from Boston. We try to spend as much time as possible while she’s in town whether it’s playing tunes or just hanging out. We met up last week for an afternoon at Caffe Fantastico followed by some casual headbanging in Esquimalt…just part of the regular Tuesday routine! I was pretty well hidden from public view while taking the majority of these images, which made poor Ivonne appear to be performing a silent, solo headbaging routine from her perch on the railing. We only realized how bizarre it must have looked halfway though our mini-shoot when a couple walking their dog tentatively approached us and stood to watch her headbang. When I popped my head out of the bushes, they realized I was taking photos and carried on their way but we managed to laugh about it for a good while after. A fun and windy session…never a dull moment with Ms. Hernandez!

I had another shoot with talented Victoria singer and songwriter Paul O’Brien last week. We had been trying for some time to get together for some new promotional images for his upcoming tour in Germany, and finally had a good day to head outdoors. We took some photos downtown Victoria behind The Irish Times Pub and The Bard and Banker Pub, two regular gig venues for Paul, and then made our way to the top of Mount Douglas for the rest of his session. I shot the album work for Paul’s most recent album, Walk Back Home released by Stockfisch Records.
