The BCPA Annual Gathering was held this past weekend and rather than sitting around feeling nervous watching Jamie play his piobaireachd, I was out photographing the Millar Family at Iona Beach and around the Scottish Cultural Centre. Members of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, Duncan and Dani were included in my first installment of Photographing the Arts for pipes|drums, and are one of the most talented couples I know. They have two daughters, and since I’ve already photographed Erin twice, baby Megan needed her first session. 4 year old Erin is clever, funny, and a great big sister, and Megan gives the best baby facial expressions (specializing in a great stink-eye and ‘blue-steel’). With a drumming father and a piping mother, I asked Erin if she was going to be a drummer or a piper…she told me ‘Well, my pipes are broken right now so I can’t play them until they’re fixed. I have a drum, but the sticks are attached to the drum. So I think I’ll be a dancer’. Quite diplomatic if you ask me. I wish the Millars lived next door…they’re my kind of folks.
